Psychedelics for Anxiety - From MDMA to ACT
Ahead of the Borealis Psychedelic Science Summit in Stockholm (September 26–27), we invite you to join an engaging webinar exploring psychedelics in the treatment of anxiety disorders.
Research into psychedelic-assisted therapy for anxiety is rapidly expanding, and clinical psychologist Jason Luoma is at the forefront with his pioneering trial of MDMA-assisted therapy for Social Anxiety Disorder. In conversation with psychologist Filip Bromberg, Jason will discuss how psychedelic treatments can extend beyond MDMA, explore the role of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in addressing anxiety and avoidance, and examine the opportunities and challenges these innovative approaches bring to mental health treatment.

Dr. Jason Luoma is a clinical psychologist, researcher, and internationally recognized expert in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). As co-founder of Portland Psychotherapy Clinic, Research & Training Center, he integrates scientific rigor with compassionate practice. He has led groundbreaking research into MDMA-assisted therapy and will speak at the upcoming Borealis Psychedelic Science Summit.

Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Integration - A workshop
Borealis Psychedelic Science Summit, Nir Tadmor and Föreningen för Psykedelisk Terapi invite you to an inspiring pre-conference workshop on Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Integration.
Psychedelic Integration is the process that encompasses the psychedelic journey. It begins with mindful preparation before the experience and continues to unfold afterward, as individuals consciously work with the insights gained to weave them meaningfully and lastingly into the fabric of daily life. Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Integration (MBPI) is a model developed by Nir Tadmor and Guy Simon, drawing from a decade of clinical practice, academic research, workshop facilitation, and psychedelic harm reduction work at parties and festivals. The model provides a psychoeducational framework and practical tools for clinicians supporting their clients through integration processes. During this workshop, participants will take a deep dive into the integration process through engaging lectures, dynamic discussions, and experiential practical exercises.

Schedule:
14:00 Short meditation and opening circle
14:30: Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Integration: Theory and Practice
During this talk, we will explore the different dimensions of psychedelic integration according to the MBPI model, present the phenomenology of psychedelic integration vs. disintegration, and discuss the importance of trauma-informed care in psychedelic integration processes.
15:45: Break. Light refreshments will be served
16:00: MBPI in Trios - Sharing, Listening, Witnessing
During this session, we will divide into groups of three to engage with an introductory Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Integration (MBPI) practice. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with fundamental mindfulness techniques and interventions that can be effectively incorporated into clinical practice.
17:15: Psychedelic Integration Case Studies
During this part of the workshop I will present 2 detailed case studies through the lens of the MBPI model. After each case study we will hold a group discussion, and allow participants to share insights from their own clinical practice.

The Facilitator - Nir Tadmor, M.Sc
Nir is a certified transpersonal psychotherapist (Eurotas) and Grof Breathwork facilitator (Grof Legacy Training – Holos, Czech Republic). He is the director of education at Impulse - Integrative Clinical Center, where he leads the Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Integration certificate program and co-founder of Safe Shore - a psychedelic harm reduction project. He is trained in Jungian Psychotherapy (Bar Ilan University), Hakomi body-centered psychotherapy, holds a Master's in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology from Middlesex University and serves as an advisor to the Special Committee for the Fight Against Drugs and Alcohol in the Israeli Parliament.
For the past 9 years, Nir has worked extensively with individuals navigating challenging psychedelic experiences and spiritual emergencies, integrating talk therapy with mindfulness-based interventions. His practice includes working with those who have experienced trauma or abuse in underground psychedelic therapy settings.

This full-day workshop offers an introduction to psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) with a unique focus on how Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can support and strengthen this emerging modality. Led by Jason Luoma, PhD – an internationally recognized ACT trainer and researcher involved in several psychedelic clinical trials – the day will combine theory, clinical applications, and opportunities for reflection and discussion.
Why ACT and Psychedelics?
Psychedelic therapy shows promise for conditions like depression, PTSD, anxiety, and addiction. But psychedelics are not a stand-alone cure—they are catalysts for emotional insight and change. ACT offers an evidence-based framework for integrating these experiences into lasting transformation, by cultivating psychological flexibility, values-based action, and mindful presence.

About Jason Luoma, PhD
Jason is a clinical psychologist and peer-reviewed ACT trainer based in Portland, Oregon. He has over 25 years of experience in ACT, co-authored two of the most influential ACT books for clinicians, and played a central role in shaping the field of contextual behavioral science. In recent years, he has worked as a therapist and researcher in several clinical trials involving MDMA- and psilocybin-assisted therapy. He is co-founder of the Open Psychedelic Evaluation Nexus, which evaluates legal psilocybin services in Oregon.

MDMA in Psychiatry - Challenges and Possibilites Ahead

- About Julie Holland -
Dr. Julie Holland is a psychiatrist specializing in psychopharmacology, with extensive experience in psychedelic research. She served as a psychiatrist at Bellevue Hospital's psychiatric emergency room in New York City for nearly a decade. Holland is the editor of "Ecstasy: The Complete Guide" and author of several influential books, including "Good Chemistry" and "Moody Bitches." A recognized voice in psychedelic science, she is a medical advisor to MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) and a leading advocate for evidence-based, compassionate, and ethical psychedelic therapies. Dr. Holland will also be a keynote speaker at the upcoming Borealis Psychedelic Science Summit in Stockholm, September 27–28, 2025.

Psilocybin mot depression vid cancer
NPV återvänder för femte gången till Vetenskapsfestivalen i Göteborg! 5 april föreläser Evana López om CAPSI-studien och hur psilocybin potentiellt kan förbättra livet för de med depression och cancersjukdom.
Cancersjukdom innebär tyvärr inte bara kroppsligt lidande - omkring en tredjedel utvecklar också depression. En behandling som visat lovande resultat är psilocybin-assisterad terapi, vilket nu utforskas i en stor svensk studie vid namn CAPSI. I detta föredrag får vi höra studieläkaren och doktoranden Evana López berätta om CAPSI, och hur psilocybin potentiellt kan förbättra livet för denna mycket hårt drabbade patientgrupp.

Norra Mälarkretsen tillsammans med Nätverket för Psykedelisk vetenskap bjuder in till en föreläsning som gräver djupare i behandling med hjälp av psykedeliska substanser.

Ketamine Treatment for Eating Disorders: Current Research Evidence and Future Directions

The placebo effect is one of the most robust and replicated phenomena in clinical research. Yet, the idea of leveraging the placebo effect for patient benefits remains controversial. In this webinar, we will delve into the historical origins of “the placebo”, both in clinical practice and research, challenging some of the assumptions that have contributed to its pejorative connotations and suboptimal handling in research. We will also examine the relationship between the placebo effect and the concept of 'set and setting' in psychedelic science, highlighting the paradigmatic tensions between the biomedical ‘additive’ model and the psychedelic 'interactive' model. Finally, we will discuss how both fields could benefit from enhanced documentation and reporting of extra-pharmacological variables, to overcome shortcomings in current research designs.
- Bio -
Chloé Pronovost-Morgan is a researcher and medical student with a strong interest in extra-pharmacological determinants of therapeutic outcomes. She holds and MSc in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience from Maastricht University, and a BA in honours Psychology from McGill University. As part of her masters, she interned at Imperial College London’s Centre for Psychedelic Research, where she launched 'The Delphi Study on Setting' under the supervision of Dr. Leor Roseman and Dr. Kyle Greenway - an international expert consensus study that generated guidelines for reporting setting variables in psychedelic clinical trials (currently under review). She is now back in Montreal, her hometown, to complete her medical degree at McGill University with the aim of becoming of clinician-scientist in psychiatry.

Biography
Dr. rer. nat. Max Wolff is a psychologist and psychotherapist and currently serves as the Head of Psychotherapy Training and Research at the MIND Foundation. His research is concerned with the psychotherapeutic mechanisms and contextual conditions of psychedelic-occasioned psychological change, and aims to make the findings of psychotherapy research applicable to the practice of psychedelic therapy. As a psychotherapist, Max works with cognitive-behavioral, acceptance-based, and emotion-focused approaches. He directs the MIND Foundation’s APT Program, an international training in psychedelic-augmented psychotherapy for psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals. He is also involved as a researcher and study therapist in the EPIsoDE trial, a phase 2b clinical trial investigating the safety and efficacy of psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression at the Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) Mannheim, Germany, and Charité University Medicine Berlin.
Psychedelic Therapy is Psychotherapy — Connecting the Dots Between Two Fields that Belong Together
In this talk, I make two assumptions based on which I argue that psychedelic therapy is a form of psychotherapy: First, the therapeutic effects of psychedelic therapy mediated by therapeutic experiences. Second, these experiences likely drive the same general change mechanisms that are also active in other forms of psychotherapy: (1) resource activation, (2) problem actuation, (3) clarification, (4) mastery and (5) the therapeutic relationship. Using illustrative patient reports from the EPIsoDE trial (a clinical study testing psilocybin for depression, finished in early 2024), I aim to clarify the value of looking at psychedelic therapy through the lens of empirical
psychotherapy research. I also outline some of the MIND Foundation’s current efforts to connect the dots between psychotherapy research and psychedelic therapy: theoretical integration, practical implementation in the Augmented Psychotherapy Training (APT), qualitative research, and quantitative research.

This talk will explore how symbols, concepts, and principles derived from mystical and magical traditions have informed several influential models of psychedelic experience. Figures such as Aldous Huxley, Timothy Leary, and Terence McKenna deliberately employed metaphors derived from esoteric spiritual philosophies to create maps for navigating with intention through psychedelic realms of ecstatic consciousness. Through their work, these models have seeped into the popular discourse around psychedelics. The use of esoteric symbolism also serves to convey the apparently fundamentally mysterious nature of the psychedelic experience, and can even be considered an attempt to resolve the tension between a scientific attitude and a religious instinct. This talk will analyze the key features of some influential esoteric maps of psychedelic space, highlight their purpose, and evaluate their explanatory and therapeutic potential. It will also draw upon recent work in the emerging field of the philosophy of psychedelics to frame the discussion in terms of contemporary academic philosophy.

Patrick Everitt is a researcher of western esotericism and esoteric philosophy from Ireland. His BA philosophy dissertation analyzed the system of magical attainment described in the Oratio (1486) of Italian Renaissance philosopher Pico della Mirandola. He completed the Master of Arts in Religious Studies (Western Esotericism) at the Center for the History of Hermetic Philosophy in the University of Amsterdam, where his thesis explored the role of peyote in the life and work of English occultist Aleister Crowley. He has conducted several studies on the intersection of esoteric philosophy and entheogenic practice in the works of Terence McKenna, Robert Anton Wilson, and Timothy Leary. He has presented his academic research on esotericism and psychedelics at a number of international conferences and events, including the Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research (ICPR), the European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism conference (ESSWE), Breaking Convention, Beyond Psychedelics, Altered Conference, Occulture Conference, and the O.Z.O.R.A. Festival.

Dr. Stephanie Knatz Peck (Ph.D) is a clinical psychologist and Associate Clinical Professor and Director of Intensive Family Treatments at the UCSD Eating Disorder Center. She is co-investigator on two trials evaluating psilocybin for anorexia nervosa and served as lead psychologist on trials evaluating psilocybin for treatment resistant depression and anorexia nervosa. She has experience delivering both psilocybin therapy and ketamine-assisted therapy for mental health populations, and is also trained in psychological support models for other psychedelic drugs. She has served as consultant, subject matter expert and lead content developer for Compass Pathways assisting with the development of content related to their psychological support model and therapist training program for indications including treatment resistant depression and anorexia nervosa. She currently serves as senior lead therapist trainer and mentor, through which she provides ongoing training for clinical trial therapists. Stephanie is passionate about developing and disseminating indication-specific psychedelic therapy models which reduce harm, increase safety, and leverage healing.
In this webinar, she will discuss applications of psilocybin treatment for anorexia nervosa including a rationale for application, a review of current studies of psychedelic treatments and eating disorders, findings from trials evaluating psilocybin therapy for anorexia nervosa, and an integrated perspective based on her experience.

Dokumentärfilmen 'LSD made in ČSSR' bjuder på en sällsynt inblick i ett dolt skeende av den psykedeliska vetenskapshistorien. I en totalitär kommuniststat på andra sidan järnridån blomstrade nämligen den psykedeliska forskningen och dess tillverkningsindustri av LSD.
I filmen får vi möta både forskningspionjärer och försöksdeltagare, varav ett par stycken konstnärer. I försökspersonernas egna skildringar delger de sina personliga upplevelser och hur LSD transformerade deras liv. I filmen medverkar en speciell pionjär, nämligen Stanislav Grof, en banbrytande psykiater från Tjeckoslovakien och en av de mest namnkunniga inom fältet.
Filmen visas på Bio Rio i Stockholm, en ikonisk biografmiljö som förstärker upplevelsen. Den unika atmosfären, där väggarna andas både dåtid och samtid, skapar en perfekt ram för denna fascinerande berättelse.
Efter filmvisningen bjuder vi på ett engagerande panelsamtal med professor Pehr Grahnqvist och dr. Joel Gruneau Brulin. I samtalet kommer bland annat annat kopplingen mellan anknytningsteori och Stanislav Grofs forskning diskuteras, vilket aktualiserar frågor om psykedelikas förmåga att bearbeta djupt rotade anknytningsmönster.

"Dr. Attila Szabo is a Research Fellow at the Norwegian Centre for Mental Disorders Research (NORMENT), University of Oslo, Norway. He holds two Master’s degrees in Biochemistry (MSc) and in Philosophy (MA). His research interest involves psychoneuroimmunology, immunopsychiatry, biological psychiatry and the molecular biology of inflammation. He is also interested in the philosophical questions of mind-body interaction, psychosomatic phenomenon and the phenomenology of altered states of consciousness. Besides academia, Attila is a founding member of the Norwegian Association for Psychedelic Science (Norsk Forening for Psykedelisk Vitenskap, NFPV) and is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Psychedelic Studies"

"With the advent of the Psychedelic Renaissance, psychedelic research is making significant strides in revolutionizing our understaing of the mind. However, most studies in the field are directed to assess potential therapeutic uses of these substances in clinical psychology and psychiatry. These investigations have primarily focused on understanding their psychotherapeutic use, overlooking their impact on physiological processes at systemic and cellular levels. Only recently has biomedical research delved into the somatic effects of psychedelics. The lecture aims to address this knowledge gap by discussing the biology underlying psychedelics' therapeutic effects in illnesses including autoimmunity, stroke, traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative disorders and dementias. We will focus on both classic (e.g. DMT, psilocybin) and non-classic psychedelics (e.g. muscimol, ibogaine, etc.)."

Välkommen till PS24 Östersund!
PS är en årlig kongress som varje år anordnas vid universiteten där psykologprogrammet finns. Kongressen samlar hundratals psykologstudenter och PTP-psykologer från hela Sverige. I år anordnas PS24 i Östersund 10-11 maj 2024. Evenemanget sträcker sig över två dagar och består av föreläsningar, workshops och möjligheter till nätverkande. Under fredagskvällen anordnas även en fredagsaktivitet. Kongressen avslutas på traditionsenligt vis med en oförglömlig bankett.
NPV kommer att medverka med både en monter och genom att arrangera ett panelsamtal. Har du inte redan köpt biljett, så gör det här!

The Therapeutic Relationship and Ethical Challenges in Psychedelic Therapy
Welcome to a free public lecture hosted by Nätverket för psykedelisk vetenskap in collaboration with the Department of Psychology at Stockholm University! We are proud to be visited by Roberta Murphy and Ashleigh-Murphy Beiner of Imperial College London, two of the world's most prominent researchers on the role of the therapist within psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

Biography:
Dr Roberta Murphy is an Irish psychiatrist based in London, currently training as a medical psychotherapist. She is a member of the Imperial Centre for Psychedelic Research. She worked as a study doctor and therapy guide on trials of psilocybin for healthy volunteers, severe depression and eating disorders; and has subsequently helped to train other research teams. She is particularly interested in the role of the therapist in psychedelic assisted therapy. She has been involved in writing ethical frameworks and clinical guidelines for the work; and co-facilitates reflective groups on ethical and clinical issues in psychedelic therapy for practitioners. She has published a recent paper exploring the impact of the therapeutic alliance on the acute psychedelic experience and clinical outcomes. Roberta is interested in alternative approaches to severe and enduring mental health issues. She has trained with Open Dialogue UK, The Institute of Group Analysis, The Institute of Psychoanalysis and in Ecotherapy. Her work is informed by experiences of Holotropic Breathwork.
Ashleigh Murphy-Beiner is a Psychologist based in London, specialising in the treatment of complex trauma. Ashleigh is also a member of the Imperial Centre for Psychedelic Research where she is carrying out qualitative and psychotherapy process research. Her research relates to therapists experiences of using psychedelic assisted therapy with people with complex trauma histories, and patients’ experiences of psilocybin treatment for depression and anorexia. Ashleigh worked as a therapy guide on Imperial’s clinical trial of psilocybin-assisted therapy for depression, and previously published research exploring changes to cognitive flexibility and mindfulness following ayahuasca use. She has co-designed and published an ethics framework; and facilitates educational and reflective groups on ethical and clinical issues in psychedelic therapy to support practitioners, clinicians and academic staff. Ashleigh is trained to work flexibly with a range of psychological models including psychodynamic, systemic and cognitive -behavioural therapies and has undertaken a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy).
